Year 1

Hello and welcome to year 1’s class page! Here we will keep you updated with all of our amazing learning over the year. At the bottom of this page you will find documents and links that you may find useful to support your child’s learning at home.

Our P.E lessons will take place on a Tuesday.  Please ensure that your child has appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather. Our school P.E kit consists of a white t-shirt, black shorts and pumps. Children are allowed to wear jogging bottoms, a jacket and trainers for outdoor P.E lessons. Hair should be tied back and no jewellery should be worn.

All children who take part in Read, Write Inc. Phonics lessons will be allocated, via Oxford Owl online, the book which their group is reading that week. Their login can be found in the front of their Reading Record book. Children also have a ‘Reading for Pleasure’ book which they choose themselves from the class library. This is to share at home and it is expected that good care is taken of the book. Lost or damaged books will incur a like-for-like replacement cost. Reading Records will be checked every Friday by staff in your child’s class. Children who have met the expectation of reading at least four times per week will be rewarded with 5 Class DoJo points.

All of our children are expected to read at home at least four times per week with an adult recording their reading in the child’s Reading Record book.

Basic maths skills are to be practised at home. At Brownhills West we use Numbots and Time Tables Rock Stars to help children do this and logins for these programmes can be found in the front of your child’s Reading Record. If you do not have Internet access, paper based activities will be provided for your child. Every Friday, staff in your child’s class will monitor maths homework.

Expectations: 15 minutes per week engaging with NumBots/TTRS

Breakfast and Tuck

Bagels are provided first thing in the morning when your child arrives at school. These are free of charge and all children can help themselves if they would like one.

Children can then order tuck for morning break. We offer:

  • Pancake - 50p
  • Milkshake: Strawberry, chocolate or Vanilla - 50p
  • Juice - 50p

Tuck will not be ordered if the child has no money with them.

Children are responsible for looking after their own belongings. Please make sure your child’s name is on all of their belongings clearly to avoid confusion and the mix up of items. Thank you.

Remote Learning Arrangements

Class teachers will contact you to share the remote learning arrangements and expectations via text which will direct you to the class page on the school website. Class teachers will also share a timetable of learning – this will consist of a maths lesson, a phonics/writing lesson and one other subject lesson per day.
